EU Accession and poverty in Macedonia

This policy brief treats EU Enlargment and its effect to poverty in the acceeding countries.

EU Enlargment is considered a mighty tool in decreasing poverty in the acceeding countries, while EU membership should bring intesive capital flows, increase the commercial exchange, improve the institutional capacity and the complete system. It has as a result the improvement of the country international competitiveness. On the second level, the use of EU Funds should support the various aspects of social development. All these aspects are expected to lower the poverty level, as it happened with the new member states.

On the contrary, in Macedonia the poverty level is going worst, and widens relative to the educational and age groups.
